Friday Feature

With the end of fashion week being yesterday, it is time to resume our regular schedule here at Frock it Out. Part of resuming is continuing in our Friday feature, which is exactly what I intend to do today.

But first, I would like to let everyone know that we have a winner for the Turn My Swag On fashion week contest. The lucky girl will be notified via follower e-mail. Congratulations are due to all of those who participated! Though the contest is over, I encourage you to continue providing us with feedback and comments on all of these looks!

So now for our Friday Feature....

I really really love this dress that I saw at Forever 21 the other day. It's going to be great for spring, with the yellow blue and white, but lately, I've just  been partial to the color blue. Please take note that Forever 21's dresses are super short, so take care when deciding what you would wear something like this to. I also love that it's belted to emphasize a waist, because getting back into spring means shedding all of the heavy winter garb and showing off your curves.

Some other dresses I've seen and liked are:

I love gray! (So do the designers and editors, it's been all over the runways!)

I love this peculiar and somewhat floraly print. This would be cute with tights too, especially if you're thinking it's too short.

Another supercute and flattering frock is this navy one. I love that it has pockets. So chic!

Friday Feature : Gaga And Lauper Collab !

I know.  I have to stop with the makeup/MAC/Viva Glam! posts. 

But when I heard about this certain collaboration, I honestly could not help but squeal in delight. Cyndi Lauper has been one of my fashion icons since I can remember (I have modeled several halloween costumes after her) and Lady Gaga is an up and coming new artist who is now starting to have an influence on me, musically and in the fashion world as well. 

What else could a girl want?

Oh yeah. The colors are vibrant and just in time for my spring wardrobe !

MAC has also been busy lately, developing a high-def line for normal people. Can everybody say yay ?!  The Tabloid Collection, being released later this month, is a fabulous high definition collection that does not require you to airbrush yourself to get that flawless look. 

You can guarantee a review on both of these products from me as soon as I get my hands on them.

Feature One: J Brand Jeans

Ah, Friday at last. After a week that seemed to drag along, I am very excited to present you with the part one of two of today's Friday Feature. I love J Brand jeans. I see ads for them all the time in magazines and the seem to have the most amazing cuts and washes. I saw one pair in particular in the March issue of Vogue that captured my heart. The above pair is their 869 Racer X in Grand Prix. At $218, these are a bit out of my price range, but when I have the money, I'm getting them! P.s. whoever styled this, props for the shoes. Super cute!

Feature Two: Kell on Earth

Ever since that episode of The Hills when LC and Whitney head out to New York during fashion week as "helpers" at People's Revoltion, Kelly Cutrone has scared me...and inspired me. She has truly taken over New York's PR scene as far as fashion is concerned. 

Happily, Ms. Cutrone has scored herself a little reality show on Bravo called Kell on Earth. I'm assuming it took Project Runway's spot, but for the time being, I could do without that show, Cutrone's life is much more interesting. I cannot fathom the amount of work and pressure she has, especially during fashion week, when the show takes place (thus far). The naive interns, the stressful and demanding clients, and the painstaking task of overseeing and putting together a show's seating chart has to get to a woman. And, I must admit I love her policy regarding tears. "If you're gonna cry, go outside" is a simple paraphrase of what she said to the interns. Yes, she is as curt as she seems and she is quite intimidating. She also comes off as mean, but it's quite understandable seeing her job circumstance. After all, she does work in the world's most cut-throat industry.

I encourage you all to watch this show to learn a little something about the fashion world. Most people just see it as a fun, glamourous job, but it is much more than that, as you will see. The technical work, the interpersonal skills, and attention to detail are vital to survive, and it all becomes apparent just in watching the first episode. Fashionistas beware: the industry is scary. The industry is not nice. The industry wants your all, plus some. So take a sec and flip on Bravo for an amazingly honest and surprisingly real look into the world of fashion PR. Enjoy!

Friday Feature: Viva Glam !

You have to love MAC. Lets just face it. They make some of the best makeup that the fashion world has ever seen ever. The best part is their variety of colors and shades that suit any and every kind of skin tone that could ever exist.


But back to my actual feature: Mac's newest color in their Viva Glam line is perfect for the modern girl who wants to enhance her assets but is not ready to go with a bold red lip color.


Or maybe red just doesn't look good on you, which is my sad, sad case.


Viva Glam VI (or number six...) is my new favorite shade of lipstick. It's such a pretty plum that is not too dark. This is perfect for girls like me who can't even go near red without looking pale as the moon. I can't wait to get my hands on it!


And for those who are lipstick skeptics, and I know there are quite a few, don't be afraid to try lipstick. You'd be surprised at how much adding a simple spot of color that brightens up your face can make a difference.


It is almost as essential as having a good concealer, blush, or bronzer.

Ah, the joy of Friday. As if Fridays weren't sweet enough, I am managing to make it even better. Introducing our newest series, Friday Feature. Each friday either Jill or I will bring you the best find or finds of our week whether it is a bag, shoes, a dress, anything is fair game! So enjoy and TGIF!

Friday Feature: Worthy Causes

So, today was definitely not one of the best days of my life. Actually, the past week has been somewhat of my own personal horror story. But, my issues pale in comparison to the situations of many living in impoverished and underdeveloped countries. Particularly, I feel for the people of Haiti who have suffered such great tragedy in the recent natural disasters. So for our very first Friday Feature, I would like to speak about worthy causes.

So many nations are suffering economically, politically, and in relation to natural disasters. Any way that you can help--donating items to red cross, collecting money, or hosting a charity event--provides hope to those people.

That being said, I'm going to place a (shameless) plug for our school's charity event, Dance for Darfur. As many of you know, African countries have had many political wars started over the years. Darfur, a region in Sudan, is no different, and the genocide is current. My school is looking to support victims of this tragedy by hosting a dance competition. All money raised will be going to the Michigan Darfur Coalition and Save Darfur. If you would like any information or more details on the event, shoot me an email or comment below. Any support will help the victims greatly and this event is a win-win situation. Not only does money go to charities to aid Darfur, but you get to enjoy a great show and help a worthy cause.

Designers to Watch and Take Cues from

Partie trois: Jordi Labanda

Quirky and super cute are the first words that came to mind when I saw some of  Urguay born Jordi Labanda's work. I love him for his crazy umbrellas with a chic yet interestingly whimsical look and vibrant colors. He's also had books of images and fashion text published which is a fantastic feat for a designer--they're always so busy! And, not only does he write books, illustrate, and design apparel and accessories, but, he has his own candle and stationary line as well.

His line appeals to a younger generation of fashionistas but nonetheless, it has a certain je ne sais quoi, a certian youthful charm, I guess.
