Oscars: My Favorites !

The most fabulous night of the year for the movie crowd was yesterday, and as per usual, some of the celebs really turned it out, while others fell flat. I'm not going to be negative (just yet...) so I'd like to focus on the good that I saw on the glittering red carpet this awards. And hopefully those who didn't look so hot (they know who they are) will make better decisions next time around.

I'd like to start with the lovely Sandra Bullock, Best Actress winner for The Blind Side. The detail on this dress (Marchesa) is exquisite, as is the color. There was really nothing like it on the red carpet that night and she wore the dress with such grace that it made her winning moment even sweeter for me. Her simple hair and jewelry complimented the complexity of the dress and made for an overall great look, and for me, it was the best look of the night.

Hellooooo Iron Man and the Missus. This dynamic duo looked great last night in Lanvin. Yes, more beading and simple patterns with simple hair, makeup, and jewels. It was refreshing to see the large blue bow-tie and fashionably relaxed sneakers on Robert Downey Jr. while his wife was looking so classic in her gown. I love the color pattern on her dress and it was very flattering for her skin tone and figure. A++ from me.

Funny girl Tina Fey really turned it up last night in Michael Kors. Generally, Tina looks great, but last night she looked especially fabulous. The a-symmetrical neckline, unusual beading pattern, and cinched waist make this look completely original and it looked great on Ms. Fey's figure. Again, simple hair and jewels so as not to overpower the bedazzle factor of the dress. Rock on, Tina.

Those are my top three, but that doesn't mean that there weren't plenty of other awesome gowns gracing the runway last night. Cameron Diaz, Anna Kendrick, and Vera Farmiga all had very awesome (very different) gowns on that really showed off the broad spectrum of the modern fashion world.

But I have to go, Kell on Earth is waiting for me!

Bleeding True Blue:Denim Plus....

Bleeding True Blue:Denim

From Harper's Bazaar's January 2010 Issue, Ralph Lauren SS 2010

I like denim. I love a great pair of jeans that fits well with a wash and cut that are beyond timeless (is that possible?!). I also like Ralph Lauren clothing....well, its more like love. So why in the world do I hate this picture? Denim overkill, ladies. I cannot emphasize enough how much I can't take overkill and how it ruins an outfit. I just cannot imagine myself or many other people I know trotting around in a denim blouse, a denim jacket, jeans, a denim hat, and the newly popular denim handbag. IT'S JUST TOO MUCH! And, it hurts my eyes. Just the other day I saw a woman wearing a look similar to this and I quite literally almost had a heart attack.

Regardless, I am not a fan of anything denim other than jeans or the occasional, well fitting, denim skirt. I know people have difering opinions and I'm not knocking other pieces at all, it's just not my personal taste. I think the best looks (and you will hear this from me time and time again), come from mixing and matching. I also think it comes from your knowledge of what works on your body type; and honestly, the head to toe denim isn't entirely figure-flattering on everyone.

Think I'm right? Think I'm completely crazy? Let me know via e-mail or the below comment box.

Things that Make Me Happy

There are bunches and bunches of things that make me happy:

reading, slurpees, shopping, fashion, the fashion industry, fashion week (and speaking of fashion week we're about three weeks away!), slurpees, fall, spring, accessories, handbags, shoes, Marc Jacobs, slurpees, days off, promotions, new stores, well dressed people, friends, family, slurpees......

The list could go on forever. One thing, in particular is a very fabulous slideshow by vogue which captures all of the upcoming and lovely things for spring in a mere 74 photos. Take a look:

Also, for those of you who swear by UGG boots, take a look at these alternatives...

10 Equally Functional But More Attractive Alternatives to UGGs

Some are better than others as you will see but it's always worthwhile to look into other options.

Juicy Obsession: Justified?

Image from google images

Every girl loves a little something new. But there seems to be a new craze going on within the high school scene.

Juicy Couture is taking over.

Juicy socks, necklaces, bracelets, charms, earrings, shirts, pants, sweatsuits, purses, key chains...

I could honestly go on for days.

Is this little obsession that people have with this ultra girly brand justified? Or is it just a fad?

Here are the facts:

1. Dressing in head to toe Juicy Couture is hugely obvious, obnoxious, and most of all annoying. Mix and match ! Give it an edge ! The color pink will thank you later.

2. Juicy's accessories are flawless. The oversized charms, understated necklaces, and great purses all speak for themselves. The sunglasses also make my heart happy, so I'd check those out too if you're looking for a good piece. The charms can give any outfit a girly touch and the purses are big enough to hold all of your stuff (If you read my last post, you'd know how much that means to a person like myself...). The best part is, they last a while, and even longer if you take care of them.

3. Please don't wear a sweatsuit. Not even to the gym. I don't care how much you paid for it. They really are not cute.

4. Though the fragrances are a bit strong, all of them have their separate appeals. What girl doesn't like to smell good?

So, I'd say the obsession is semi-justified. Every girl likes the bows and whistles once in a while. And, Juicy Couture is a brand with a reasonable price (next to some other big labels, like say, Chanel or Dior). Though not necessarily the classiest, the brand is slowly integrating itself into young culture.

I'd say I'm okay with that.

Unless the sweatsuit comes back again. Then my opinion might change.

If thou cannot work it, thou shall not wear it! Ring Day 2009

Although I love the simplicity that a uniform provides my routine, I live for the days when i get to get all dressed up for school. It saddens me, however when people with incredible fashion potential do not live up to it! It also saddens me that Jill and I did not get to take pics of our fabulous outfits. I fail to understand how people can make fashion mistakes. Some over do it and some ruin a great concept by not holding themselves well. Super Sad! Yet, among the fashion blunders, the girls who can't walk in shoes, VPL--the numero uno crime of fashion--and simply poorly put together outfits, I spot gems. Today was no exception. Whether it was a prim-and-proper frock made edgy with a pair of spiky heels, or the classic Aubrey black dress, I was impressed. It's pretty fantastic to see the girls' differences in style but to also see them unified over a show-stopping outfit. I live for the outfits that are individual, creative, and timeless and I envy those who can really get creative and produce something eccentric yet stunningly beautiful. So I urge you to share what you think the mortal sins of fashion are and what you think makes an outfit great. To quote a friend of my sister's (this is for you Ebere!), and our lovely subtitle,  "If thou cannot work it, thou shall not wear it!"
