Thanksgiving Outfit

Thanksgiving is undeniably my favorite holiday of the year. It epitomizes fall and is the official way to usher in the Christmas season. I love to be festive (somewhat--not over-the-top holiday sweaters for me!) and cute for the holiday, especially since it's one of the main times I get to come home and see everyone. Even though I plan to eat a ton of food (because, being blessed to be part of a humongous Arab family, we not only have tradish American Thanksgiving food but Arabic food as well) I want to do a dress, preferably in a fall color. Here's what I was thinking:

Madewell Faves

As you may know, British style icon Alexa Chung has partnered up with Madewell for a collab that is beyond brilliant. Madewell already boasts some amazing pieces, as seen in the first two dresses below (how awesome would that middle dress be with a great jacket for class?!). The dress to the far right is Alexa Chung for Madewell. It's called the "kiss me" dress and it's sweet and flirty and perfect for the upcoming holidays!

What do you think about these dresses? Do they make you want to go out and prep for the holidays?

Wishing you love and fashion inspiration,

Dress Like A Cool Hipster: Volume 1 - Elvis Costello

(image from google images)
Dearest Readers,
I am back with a vengeance.
Your Beloved,
Jill

School is officially over for me (for about a week...) and now I finally have time to post about things. Score. Anyways, I'll be starting a new series about how to dress like a cool hipster. Not that I don't think you guys are capable of doing this yourself, but it's always good to channel a notorious hipster when you're honing your hipster look.

I would define a classic "hipster" as a person that the hipsters now take some of their inspiration from (even though the likelihood that they will admit that to you is about even with the likelihood that they will tell you what music is on their iPod, but that's a different story.). And it doesn't hurt that all of these classic hipsters are impeccably cool. And I want to be them. Maybe. Probably.

The first classic "hipster" we'll be focusing on is Elvis Costello. Born in 1954 in London, England he is known for constantly reinventing himself and for his awesome use of the English language in his songs. However many times he has reinvented himself, his classic and original "hipster" style has never really changed: thick rimmed glasses, patterned blazer, a pair of good jeans, and maybe a fedora or five.

(image from google images)

Here is a little something I put together to channel the original Napoleon Dynamite.

InWear black tee
23 EUR - maryandpaul.de

D P Shop white blazer
$38 - yesstyle.com

Low rise jeans
9.99 GBP - hm.com

Dolce Vita black boot
$23 - target.com

Metal ring
34 EUR - modekungen.se

Cross earring
34 EUR - modekungen.se

Cross bracelet
8 EUR - colette.fr

Agent Ninetynine hat
$40 - generalpants.com.au

I attempted to keep it simple with the jewelry, but as per usual, I pretty much failed.

I'll also leave you with one of my favorite Elvis Costello songs. You know, just in case you're ever in need of a jam.

Mad love.

Be Sure To Wear Flowers In Your Hair

(Pictures from hairflowers.net. You can order the same clips plus loads more from there!)

Yes. I know. Obnoxious, but cute, the floral trend has been around for quite some time now. Since we are now well into summer in the great state of Michigan (meaning it's scorching), throwing your hair into  a pony tail or messy bun just makes life a lot easier. Adding a little bit of color with a clip in flower is an easy way to spice up your normal hair do. I prefer natural looking colors instead of the blues and greens, just because I feel like they're more summery.

Anyways. I've got to go. It's disgustingly hot and humid and I just finished my iced coffee. Chowing down on a cookie and about to get another one.

Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves.

Ahh soo I may or may not have missed a week...

Right-o.

Things have been a bit busy at my hizzouse, but now that the grad party is over (thank the baby gee) and the LAST uber busy weekend of graduation parties is now over, I am free to blog whenever I see fit.

AKA more than I have been, obviously.

So I'll generally be posting more along with actual outfit posts (I'm working on getting a tripod with my grad party money!).

Anyways, on to my actual subject: Cher.

Yes. Another one of my style icons who really pushed it to the limits. Known for her killer bod (even now!), long flowing locks, and her big voice, Cher has been pushing the fashion envelope since before Lady GaGa was even born.

Photo Credit: People.com but originally shot by AP photo

I mean, who can forget this Bob Mackie masterpiece when she won Best Actress in 1988 for Moonstruck. To me, this move alone just makes her the precursor to Madonna and Lady Gaga.

But Cher has continued to surprise us again and again.

This outfit is full of black and sparkles, just like the one above. I don't recommend wearing all of the items at once (unless you're going for that disco-ball look.) but one fierce item will surely brighten your waredrobe.

Besides, taking a walk on the wild side is never a bad thing.

The Fake Glasses Thing

Itttt may or may not have been a month or two since I have updated...

But now that orientation is done (fabulous experience by the way, I am now officially STOKED to move into Ann Arbor and experience life in the double A) and graduation parties are winding down (with the exception of this weekend...) my life is starting to get back in order !

But this blog isn't exactly about my life, sooo, I'll move on.

Why, yes, I did buy these.

Anddd yes I have been wearing them like everyday.

I am blind as a bat, and I really hate wearing my actual glasses: mostly because when I take them off I can't see at all and it doesn't allow me a lot of leeway with sunglasses. I like these fake frames (urban outfitters, $10) because I can wear a bunch of different kinds of bold styles, without paying an obnoxious amount for each pair.

I am especially a fan of the cat-eye glasses. Bringin' it old school !

Anyways, I promise to update more than I have been. I'll have to pick a day to do laundry and blog. Haha.
